Malicious Mischief

Malicious Mischief

A plate is dropped. A door is slammed and the window breaks. A planter is knocked over as you back away from a confrontation. If, accidentally or in a moment of anger, you damage any property at your home or at that of a family member, you may be charged with malicious mischief DV—a domestic violence charge that may ultimately ruin lives. If, as a result of a domestic dispute, you are charged with malicious mischief, it is extremely important to contact a domestic violence lawyer at the first opportunity and take measures to protect your rights.

Our clients come from all over Washington, and repeatedly tell us that our attorneys' practical and direct approach helped them get through criminal justice proceedings with dignity.

How serious is a malicious mischief charge?

The level of charge is based on the value of the property destruction:

  • Damage under $750, malicious mischief in the 3rd degree, a Gross Misdemeanor
  • Damage over $750, malicious mischief in the 2nd degree, a Class C felony
  • Damage over $5000, malicious mischief in the 1st degree, a Class B felony

The level of penalties varies with the charge but can involve heavy fines or jail time, adding stress to an already difficult situation. You may have already been falsely accused or possibly made one bad choice—don't let it ruin your life.
